Why does a drone license matter?
Having a drone license is essential for real estate photography because it ensures compliance with aviation regulations and legal requirements set forth by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This license, officially known as a Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, demonstrates that the operator has undergone training in aeronautical knowledge, safety, and airspace regulations. By obtaining this license, real estate photographers can legally operate drones for commercial purposes, providing aerial perspectives that enhance property listings and attract potential buyers.

Can I fly a drone without my Part 107 License??
Sure you can, recreationally. If you want to take photos for any commercial purposes, such as real estate photos, you need to have your Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification. If you were to get caught by any authority (police, FAA) without that certification, fines can be extremely steep. The civil penalties for flying a commercial rig without first obtaining a remote pilot's certificate from the FAA are up to $32,666 for each incidence. This fine is charged per day for continual illegal use of a drone for commercial purposes, after receiving a warning letter from the FAA. This fine can accompany a prison sentence of up to three years. Personally, I don’t think illegal commercial flights are worth the risk of those massive penalties.

How many drone photos come with a listing?
We normally take between 6 to 10 drone photos, depending on the location. Please remember those photos are included in the total picture amount of the packages. So, if you order the BASE Package (20+ images), you will get at least 6 aerial drone shots, leaving 14 photos for the rest of your home. That works very well for smaller listings like apartments, some rental properties, or air BnB’s. However, if, for example, you have a 2500 sq ft home with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a pool, a living room, a kitchen, and a dining area, you can see how 14 photos would not be anywhere nearly enough for an accurate listing.
-
Your packages say "+" after the photo amount? how many photos should i expect?
The”+” indicates that for that package, you can receive more than the indicated number of photos. For example, if you order the PRO Package, you would receive at minimum 35 photos, but if the house requires a few more to list well, we will gladly give you a few more shots. A 2500 sq ft home may only require 35 photos, whereas a 3500 sq ft home might need 40. We will always aim to go above and beyond to please our customers.

How are the deliverables given to the customer?
We use Show and Tour to deliver our services to our customers. It is an extremely easy-to-use, intuitive website that streamlines the delivery process. Our clients and we have found it to be much more efficient than google drive, making the delivery aspect a much more pleasing and frustration-free experience.
-
How long do shoots generally take?
We ask for 1hr per 1000sq ft. So, if your home is 3000 sq ft, we would like to be allotted 3 hours to complete all the drone and traditional photos. If you are getting a virtual home tour as well, we ask for 1 additional hour on top. Rarely do we ever take up the entire time period, but it is better to have more time and be done early than to have too little time and not be able to finish the job with quality.
-
How large of homes do you recommend for the different package deals you offer?
Our BASE Package comes with 20+ photos, including a minimum of 6 drone shots. This package works well for homes smaller than 2,000 sq ft.
Our PRO Package includes 35+ photos, including a minimum of 6 drone shots. This package is ideal for most standard listings up to 4000 sq ft.
Our PLUS Package includes 45+ photos, including a minimum of 6 drone photos, most likely 10 or more. This is ideal for listings over 4000 sq ft.
Please keep in mind these size recommendations are just suggestions, as we leave the final decision of how many photos are needed up to the client purchasing the package.
-
Can the owner of the home be present during the shoot?
Absolutely. Our photographers love meeting the homeowners to get any additional information about the home, like parts of the house that stand out, stories about the home, etc. Having the homeowner present is not mandatory. However, the agent should be present if the homeowner is not. That way, the photographers can access wherever they need to without the worry of accidental lockouts, etc.
-
Does the house need to be empty?
No, not at all. We can take photos of a fully furnished home as easily as we can of an empty one. Sometimes, having that “homie look and feel” can be a big boost to a listing.
